We completed renovation works to the property, to prevent the storm damaged roof from leaking. To this day, the quality of the roof has ensured it remains maintenance-free.

Our first task was to carry out localised repairs to the property by stopping the leaks and stripping slates, then removing the existing lead valley. We then replaced it using new lead and re-using all the existing second-hand slates and making up the deficiency with similar to match.

This storm damage consisted of all the ridges moving, mainly caused by the high winds and the poor condition of the previous contractor’s work. We removed all the existing ridges and hips, and re-bedded them back on using a 4:1 coloured mortar mix.

We visited this property after the high winds and inspected the damage to the mansard roof and lower roof. An emailed quote and acceptance saw us completing the works the following week.
Storm Damage Chimney Stack and Roof, Fleet
Storm Damage Chimney Stack and Roof, Fleet
When we got the call we were told the chimney stack was lying on the roof. However, when we surveyed the job we found the chimney stack had blown down completely leaving debris and damage all over the main roof, lower flat roofs, porch, car and drive. Our first job was to make the stack safe, clear the loose bricks and put the roof back in a temporary weathered condition. Having discussed the damage with the owner he dealt with the insurance company.
We erected Health & Safety scaffolding, removed the remainder of the existing stack, and constructed a new chimney stack incorporating a new lead DPC tray and associated flashings.
We removed the scaffold from the roof and made good all the roof tiles by salvaging matching tiles from the rear of the roof and replacing them with new where they couldn’t be seen. We replaced the lower damaged felt on the flat roofs with new high performance felt systems, repaired the porch, and finally cleared the site on completion.

Dangerous Storm damaged Chimney Stack Fleet
Dangerous Storm damaged Chimney Stack, Fleet
Due to dreadful weather conditions we received many similar calls regarding damaged chimney stacks. This one was urgent. The chimney stack was precariously positioned on the roof and was now flying in the wind with the TV aerial attached, and swaying dangerously over the front door and drive.
Works
Our priority was to make the chimney stack safe and speak the customers and insurance companies, followed by the setting up of Health & Safety scaffold, then the removal of the remaining damaged chimneystack. We then rebuilt the chimney stack incorporating a new lead DPC tray and flaunching the top using a sharp sand mixture. Finally we cleared site on completion.
Note:
Once the site was made safe, all these works were carried out in the following week. This job is a great example of how we can accommodate urgent requirements with a common sense approach, and following Health and Safety guidelines.
We also liaised with both insurance companies on the customers’ behalf, as the chimney stack was shared between the neighbours of this semi-detached property.
